Mom life Series - Putting your oxygen mask on first

Mom life Series - Putting your oxygen mask on first

I’m not claiming to be an expert in motherhood; I’m just a new mom navigating returning to work, maintaining my identity, surviving sleep deprivation, and staying balanced. As a health provider, I educate and encourage the importance of self-care. As an over-tired momma, I understand how prioritizing personal care is not easy. My pregnancy and birth experience were both pretty uneventful. Physically, however, I ended up with diastasis recti (abdominal split), a gnarly cesarean scar, knee pain, and general deconditioning. With returning to work, chasing sleep, preventing total house disaster and loving on a sweet baby, finding time to rehabilitate is difficult. Although it feels selfish at times, I have to make the conscious decision to put my health and fitness first. I find I am a better mother, wife, PTA and person when I’ve prioritized myself. Here’s how I put my oxygen mask on first before “adulting”….

Frequent Questions about Chiropractic

1.       Will an adjustment hurt?

To most people, the adjustment feels good. Depending on the condition, however, there may be muscle soreness following the adjustment.

2.       How long will I have to continue care?

This depends on the severity of the problem and how long you’ve had the problem. Typically, a more severe problem takes longer than a mild problem. Likewise, a more chronic problem will take longer than an acute problem. In general, it depends on individual needs and situation.

3.       What is the cracking sound during an adjustment?

When a joint capsule is stretched, the gases contained within the fluid of the joint are rapidly released and create a popping sound.

4.       Do Chiropractors treat more than just the spine?

Yes, chiropractors treat soft tissue, extremities, and other ailments. The nervous system is what controls all aspects of the body. While chiropractors don’t claim to treat everything, many conditions have been shown to be helped by chiropractors. Migraines, vertigo, and ear infections are just a few.

5.       Once I start do I have to keep going?

That depends on your goal. If your goal is to get out of pain, then your goal has been reached. However, the absence of pain usually does not signal that you are healed. Chiropractic care is a process of restoring proper motion and function to the joints which in turn leads to less pain and increased overall function to the body.

6.       Is anyone to old or young to get adjusted?

No, we can adjust anyone from a newborn to 100 years old. The difference is the technique and force used. Remember, pain is usually the last indicator that something is wrong. Children often don’t have pain but benefit from an adjustment.

7.       Is Chiropractic Safe?

Chiropractic care has been found to be a very safe, non-invasive treatment. Compared to other options for treatment, chiropractic has no drug side effects, does not mask the symptoms, and is considered one of the safest, most effective treatments for numerous conditions.

8.       Can I get adjusted while pregnant?

Yes, it is highly recommended to get adjusted when pregnant. Adjustments can not only help women throughout the pregnancy, but can also help with an easier labor and delivery. Of course, there are modifications that are made as the pregnant woman grows.
