Dos and Don'ts of Gardening

Gardening can be a relaxing activity for many people. The consequence, however, is often feeling sore or even just plain hurting the following days. Here are a few tips when working out in the yard that can help keep gardening enjoyable.



Take breaks often

Sit or kneel when possible to avoid straining the low back

Lift properly

Stay hydrated

Use a small pad for the knees

Wear a hat for sun protection

Alternate positions/sides such as when raking or shoveling



Bend forward at the waist

Stay in a twisted position

Try to do everything in one day

Get burned in the sun
