Several years ago I was asked to do a lecture for the Federal Way School District on backpack safety.  The size, weight and configuration of a student’s backpack had become a major concern of parents, teachers and administrators.  I was happy to oblige and promptly put together a lecture addressing the appropriate weight for children of different sizes and ages, the qualities of the back pack as well as the proper way to pack it.  The lecture was well received and I felt the information was helpful to the audience.

What surprised me was the school administrator who approached me after the lecture and informed me that the lack of backpacks and school supplies was a much bigger problem than the quality of them in the Federal Way District.
