One of the biggest complaints I hear from patients nowadays is lower back pain. While the causes of the low back pain can include posture, being sedentary, sometimes even certain medications; the treatments for said pain can be a bit overwhelming.
Sciatic nerve pain is usually caused by tight lower back muscles which causes stress on the sciatic nerve roots. The Sciatic nerve originates from the scarum (lowest part of the back right above the gluteal fold) and branches out and down into each leg. When lower back muscles are tight they can cause pinching or irritation on the sciatic nerve.Deep tissue massage loosens the lower back muscles to help alleviate the pain.
There are also other causes for sciatica which often deal with spinal issues. Which is why it is important to consult either your primary care physician or chiropractor if you are experiencing this pain. Most of the time if it is tight muscles that are causing the sciatica, massage is a great course of action for treatment. There are also exercises and stretches that can be done to help prevent the lower back tension from reoccurring.
