The Benfits of Walking

There are many benefits to a regular walking program.  I love the simplicity and ease without the requirement of special gear or expensive equipment.  In addition, walking improves your health because it helps:

·         Maintain a healthy weight

·         Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes

·         Strengthen your bones and muscles

·         Improve your mood

·         Improve your balance and coordination

The faster, farther and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits.

While you are walking make sure to maintain good posture; keeping your head up, looking forward, not at the ground.  Your arm should swing freely with a slight bend in your elbows. Keep our stomach muscles are slightly tightened and your back is straight, not arched forward or backward.  

Be sure to get walking shoes with proper support, wear comfortable clothes, warm up first and stretch afterward.
