Stress Management

All of us experience stress at one time or another throughout our lives. Particularly in these fast-paced, modern times we all need to equip ourselves with tools to manage the kind of stress life brings us. The key to successful stress management is to choose healthy lifestyle methods rather than those that give us a temporary feeling of well-being but ultimately result in negative results. One of the biggest keys to stress management can be found in the age-old Serenity Prayer which reminds of to have the serenity to accept the things that we cannot change; change the things that we can; and the wisdom to know the difference. Ultimately we really only have control over ourselves, our thoughts or our actions and not particularly those of others. That being said; our greatest weapon in combating stress is to make those healthy positive choices.

THINGS TO DO 1. Exercise daily 2. Get enough sleep 3. Eat a healthy, well-balance diet 4. Limit caffeine and alcohol 5. Meditate or pray daily 6. Practice deep breathing 7. Be solution oriented 8. Manage your time; allowing enough for work, play and rest

THINGS TO AVOID 1. Smoking 2. Drinking too much alcohol 3. Over or undereating 4. Zoning out for hours in front of the TV or computer 5. Withdrawing from family or friends 6. Using pills or drugs 7. Sleeping too much 8. Procrastination 9. Filling up every moment of the day to avoid facing problems 10. Taking your stress out on others
